Why would I want to register for Springboard (UNIV 111) ?

Springboard is uniquely different from any other course offered at BGSU. As first-year student, you will be paired with an upperclassman who has already been through at least one year at BGSU. You will meet throughout the semester for two ours a week, completing a series of planned activities that focus on advanced development of skills in the areas of communication, leadership, organization, writing and self-assurance. Your grade will be based on your punctuality and attendance, and your participation in the weekly activities. You are also asked to provide a reflection of each class activity. Springboard offers you a chance to excel and meet new people in a dynamic and welcoming environment. In the words of a past Springboard student, “Springboard is awesome and essential!”

Why would I want to be a Coach (UNIV 411) ?

The most rewarding part of being a Coach is the chance to help an incoming student grow throughout their first year at BGSU. During class sessions you will take part in class discussions and icebreakers, observe your first-year student as they work through the weekly activities, and spend time one-on-one with your student to form a rewarding and priceless mentoring relationship. Many coaches return for a second or even a third semester of coaching because they enjoy the mentoring experience so much.

If this is such an activities based course, how will my grade be calculated?

Your grade in this course depends upon your punctual attendance at every class session, your willing participation in all activities, and your completion of the "Reflections" portion of the database each week. Grades will be calculated as follows:
