In 2010 the students, faculty and staff members, alumni and retirees of BGSU committed to celebrate our Centennial by highlighting the ways in which we give back to our community through service.

This is nothing new – our campus community has a long and distinguished history of service.

Each and every day someone associated with BGSU is making a difference in someone’s life by volunteering, as part of service-learning experiences, thru public and professional service, and by just being a good neighbor.

During the year we did our best to count those hours….although we know that many contributions may not have been counted.

But we can now announce that in 2010 the BGSU community logged 243,552 hours of service.

Based on estimates for 2009 by The Independent Sector, a volunteer hour in Ohio was worth $18.89.

So the value of our service hours in 2010 represents a contribution of $4,600,697 to the economic and social fabric of our state.
