Wednesday, September 23 11:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m. War, Film, and the Soldier Experience: Exploring War and Military Service through Film, Testimony, and Service-Learning Brett Holden, Assistant Professor, Theatre and Film Based upon a decade of course-development and research, Holden’s class examined the Hollywood portrayal of service personnel
and the actual effects of combat deployments upon the individual. Students in the course watched twenty films, read veteran
testimonies concerning their war experiences, and worked closely with veterans and their families to better understand service,
the myth of war, and how propaganda and misinformation impact the soldier. In addition to hosting veteran speakers and working
at the home of a deployed soldier to assist his spouse and children, students in the class worked closely with Major General
Gregory Wait and his staff to host the Ohio National Guard’s Northwest Ohio Town Hall Meeting for volunteers as part of their
final exam. Come to the presentation and hear about how Holden came to work with this important population and how you, too,
may involve your students in this important work on behalf of our military families.
Wednesday, October 21 10:00 a.m. - 11:00 a.m. Intergenerational Service-Learning Projects Nancy Orel, Associate Professor, Gerontology Intergenerational service-learning represents a valuable teaching strategy that provides many benefits to students, the community

related to aging and intergenerational relationships. Orel will discuss the guidelines and procedures for faculty interested
in planning intergenerational service-learning projects and the benefits of such projects. She will also distribute a variety
