The Office of Service-Learning Faculty Focus Series Fall 2008
These discussion based programs feature faculty talking about their service-learning courses and experiences working with
all aspects of service-learning and civic engagement.

Tuesday, September 30th 9 a.m. to 10 a.m. The Parents/Professional Partnership Project Mary Murray: Assistant Professor, School of Intervention Services Vicki Snyder: Director, The EduCare Center Timothy Floyd: Family Support Specialist, The EduCare Center The Parent/Professional Partnership Project is a partnership between the Bowling Green State University, School of Intervention
Services and Lucas County Board of Mental Retardation and Developmental Disabilities (LCBMRDD). This project provides a forum
to prepare University students and parents of children with disabilities on methods of effective Parent/Professional Partnership

Tuesday, October 21st 11 a.m. to 12 p.m. General Chemistry Water Quality Service-Learning Project at BGSU Firelands Linda Cornell: Assistant Professor, BGSU Firelands, Natural and Social Sciences Dr. David Klarer, Research Coordinator, Old Woman Creek National Estuarine Research Reserve In 2008, BGSU Firelands General Chemistry Faculty, (CHEM 128) began a service-learning project with Old Woman Creek National
Estuarine Research Reserve (NERR), Firelands Tributaries Costal Watershed Program and Volunteer Stream Monitors, and the Erie
Soil and Water Conservation District. The presentation will include the project origination, purpose, logistics, student

Wednesday, November 5th Service-Learning Through Middle Eastern Dance Sherona Garrett-Ruffin: Instructor, Chapman Learning Community In this program, participants will learn how Middle Eastern Dance and yoga served as tools for studying women's mental and
physical health and was linked to PSYC 101R. The service component involved working with a local dance studio and dance therapist
to create health promotion campaigns and dance activities for local youth and a BG residence hall. The program will include
data gathered from in-depth interviews of student participants and the service agency. This program is experiential in nature
and will include lecture, discussion, and movement exercises. Presentation (pdf format)
