Charles S. Ping Community Service Award- Ohio Campus Compact

2007 Nominee and State Winner - Jake Gallardo, Junior, International Studies Major
Jake was recognized for his work in founding the campus organization Students Initiative for Global Competitiveness. He forged partnerships with numerous departments, non-profit organizations, and foundations, including the Islamic Center of Greater Toledo and local high schools to create the Young Global Leaders Summit held at Bowling Green State University in July 2006. Hope Not Hate: The Future of U.S.-Muslim World Relations was the topic of the global event. Nearly 200 BGSU and high school student leaders attended the summit.
Jake Gallardo was selected as one of the State Award winners and received a $500 Legacy Grant awarded by Fifth Third Bank .His grant was donated to one of his key community partners the Islamic Center of Greater Toledo. As a State Ping Award Recipient he was nominated for two national awards sponsored by Campus Compact the Howard R. Swearer Student Humanitarian Award and the Frank Newman Leadership Award.
