(12:30-1:00 presentation, 1:00-1:15 Q & A)
Keynote Speaker: Jan Cohen-Cruz, Director of Imagining America, and University Professor Syracuse University
The Engaged University
Cohen-Cruz contrasts two conceptions of the mission of higher education the ivory tower and the engaged university. Avowing that they are not mutually exclusive, she identifies obstacles to the full flowering of the latter. She provides a case study of an engaged university project, Home, New Orleans, that contributed modestly to rebuilding efforts while generating scholarship, compelling pedagogy, and a reciprocally valuable version of what is traditionally called service.
Attend the Forum presentation at 12:30 pm or you may also join us for lunch at 12:00 pm.  For lunch reservation information visit http://www.bgsu.edu/downloads/cas/file46284.pdf.
