FREEDOM's Tent City - November 2nd, 2007

In November each year, various teams comprising of college students, community organizations, etc. will meet in Toledo to camp for the weekend in solidarity with the homeless. Tent City aims to raise homelessness awareness, and all proceeds will go to homelessness services.

All weekend, the camp is alive with public services for the homeless - meals each day, hygiene and medical services, etc. They even have bands scheduled.  Members of FREEDOM, the student organization started by past Immersion Trip students, attend this event each year.  We camp there all weekend and serve meals throughout.

Want to get involved?  There are many options.  Help us serve a meal or make donations.

TAAEH (Toledo Area Alliance to End Homelessness) exists to unite the area providers of services to the homeless. For more information or to sign up to volunteer, go to www.taaeh.com. If you do want to sign up our username is FREEDOM and our password is freedom, or you can create your own account.

Below is some important information from the website that explains more about the event and TAAEH.

The Homeless Awareness Project Tent City works each year to get homeless off the streets into housing, and is supported completely by the generosity of if the City, County, countless businesses and groups, there is no staff, and 100% of the proceeds go to the homeless services.

As in the past, Tent City will bring Unity for the Community.  Churches, schools, businesses, politicians and the media come together with the service providers and the homeless to forge partnerships that have moved hundreds of homeless individuals, families and children into housing.

There is much more going on and we hope you will take this opportunity and get involved in this incredibly rewarding event.

Assisted by the Toledo Lucas County Homelessness Board and Lucas Countys Veterans Service Commission, the City of Toledo and many county offices, TAAEH presents the annual Homeless Awareness Project Tent City in order to raise awareness and help others get involved in helping the homeless.
