City 175th Anniversary 2008
Deanna Vatan Woodhouse, member of Planning Committee/Chair of BGSU Partnering Subcommittee & Joan H. Gordon, Chairperson for 175th Anniversary Planning Committee

2008 will be a special time for the City of Bowling Green because the town will be celebrating its 175th Anniversary. To plan the Terquasquicentennial Anniversary, the 175th Anniversary has a steering committee of 28 volunteers who are working to plan a variety of events and activities. One of the subcommittees is working directly with members of Bowling Green State University to promote the anniversary to the University community and to facilitate connections between University and Bowling Green community celebration efforts. Deanna Vatan Woodhouse and Joan H. Gordon will not only discuss the goals of the Anniversary, but how BGSU can partner with the event for service-learning opportunities. Any faculty and staff members interested in incorporating service-learning projects relating to the anniversary into their courses in 2008, especially the promotion of history and project development, would benefit from this presentation!

The Community Partnership & CAPA City

Kathy Schnapp,  Project Manager
The Community Partnership was founded in 1996 as a systemic coalition to bring community resources together to address alcohol, tobacco, and other drug prevention and intervention issues to promote an environment that encourages healthy lifestyles. One of the Partnership’s committees, the Coalition for Youth Enrichment (CYE), convenes with youth service providers to encourage collaborative, inter-agency, cross-cultural leadership and activities to build a community that values and helps youth prepare for successful adult lives. One of CYE’s specific projects is the enhancement of CAPA City, which is an interactive five-day youth leadership conference in which teens are prepared for their present and future roles as involved, equipped community leaders. Kathy Schnapp will discuss how the Community Partnership works with youth to accomplish these goals. The Community Partnership has worked with BGSU to develop service-learning opportunities for those who wish to incorporate youth development into their coursework and Schnapp will discuss those service-learning opportunities available to the BGSU campus. Any BGSU faculty or staff member who focuses on youth development as well as substance abuse prevention in their courses would enjoy this presentation!
