Biography:
Dr. Jane Rosser is the Director of Service-Learning at Bowling Green State University. She has worked in international higher education for over 20 years in the UK and the US. A graduate of the University of Sussex in Political Science and English & American Studies, the University of Texas at Austin in Political Science, she has a Ph.D. in Higher Education Administration and a Graduate Certificate in Women's Studies from Bowling Green State University.

Her professional work has encompassed student affairs, women's centers, community partnerships, and more recently, service-learning and civic engagement. At BGSU she teaches regularly for the Division of Higher Education and Student Affairs and serves on the Women's Studies Steering Committee. She is an affiliated faculty member in Women's Studies and American Culture Studies. She was instrumental in bringing an AmeriCorps program to Northwest Ohio, and Wood County Corps has developed into a very successful civic outreach program for BGSU with members serving in 17 agencies in Wood County.

She is actively involved in a range of community based partnerships, local and national grant related activities and in work with Ohio and National Campus Compact. Her research and activism interests include access and diversity issues in high education, gender and LGBT issues, organizational change, qualitative research methods, service-learning and social change.

Biography:
Kathy is Secretary of the Office of Service-Learning. In addition to a BS in mathematics, she has a Specialist Certificate in Intergenerational Programming from the University of Pittsburgh, and is a trained facilitator for Stephen R. Covey's "Seven Habits for Highly Successful People." As a practitioner, Kathy has directed several intergenerational service-learning programs involving middle school students with elders who reside in retirement communities or nursing homes. In connection with these experiences, Kathy has presented intergenerational service-learning workshops at the annual conventions of the National Middle School Association, the National Council on Aging, Generations United, and the American Society on Aging.

Biography:
Amy graduated from the University of the South, Sewanee, TN, in 2007 with a B.A. in Psychology and is a first-year master’s student the College Student Personnel program. For the past 5 years, she has worked in undergraduate admissions where she developed a passion for student affairs and enrollment management which led her to pursue her graduate degree at BGSU. Throughout her time as both an undergraduate and professional, Amy has enjoyed getting involved in outreach and community service projects such as volunteering at the humane society as a pet foster parent, working with Habitat for Humanity, or volunteering at local Rural Area Medical clinics.

Biography:
Paul Valdez is a doctoral student in Higher Education Administration and currently serves as the Assistant Director for the Civic Action Leaders program within the Office of Service-Learning. He is originally for the small mountain town of Walsenburg, Colorado. Paul completed his undergraduate degree in Paleobiology at Bowling Green State University. In 2004, Paul moved to Indiana University in Bloomington, where he completed a master's degree in higher Education and Student Affairs. As a professional in higher education, Paul has worked for Semester at Sea, the BGSU Honors Program, and most recently the BGSU Office of Campus Activities. Paul's research interests are in the areas of international higher education and queer experiences in higher education. When not at work, Paul volunteers as the chair of the Honors Alumni Society and as a board member for Equality Toledo, an advocacy group for lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender equal rights in the northwest Ohio region.

Biography:
Sakina is a first-year master's student in the College Student Personnel program. She holds a B.S. in Family, Youth, and Community Sciences and a minor in Organizational Leadership in Non-Profits from the University of Florida. As an undergraduate student Sakina had the opportunity to participate in various aspects of university life in departments such as New Student and Family Programs as an Orientation Leader and First Year Experience Instructor; Multicultural and Diversity Affairs as a Staff Member for Gatorship (an annual diversity retreat); the Center for Leadership and Service as a LeaderShape Florida 2010 and Alternative Breaks Participant; the Department of Housing and Residence Education as a Residence Hall Association Executive Board Member; and as a Student Manager for the UF Student Union. Sakina is excited to bring her experiences and knowledge to BGSU and the Office of Service-Learning!

Biography:
Katie is a senior pursuing a bachelor's degree in Visual Communication Technology with a specialization in marketing, with hopes to continue her studies in marketing in the future. She hopes to obtain work within a marketing department of an organization, as a web or graphic designer upon graduation. She enjoys team sports, whether it be as a player or spectator. She also enjoys being around animals, and hopes to have time later in life to devote to volunteering at animal shelters or rescues.

Biography:
Sean is a sophomore Visual Communications Technology Major. He is currently a part of the Arts Village learning community which has provided him with a variety of creative opportunities including mural work in San Diego’s Chicano Park and a variety of local community service projects. He plans to work in print design after graduation with a particular interest in American Greetings.


Student Office Assistant: Bianca Thomas-Veal


Biography:
Bianca Thomas-Veal is a junior in the College of Art and Sciences. With a major in psychology and a minor in art she is pursuing a career in Art Therapy. She is currently serves as the Community Chairmen of Exceptional Intellectual Ladies (EIL) and the Secretary of Honoring Urging and Empowering (HUE) both have provided her with great mentoring and service experiences. After graduating Bianca hopes to attend an Art Therapy Graduate school.

 

 

Student Office Assistant: Katherine Adams

Biography:
Katherine Adams is a freshman Majoring in Interior Design and pursuing a minor in Small Business Management. She is involved with American Society of Interior Designers and hopes to travel abroad her junior or senior year. After graduation, Katherine hopes work toward a Master’s degree in Construction Management and then work with Habitat for Humanity as well as own an independent design firm.

Biography: Jessica is pursuing a bachelor's degree in Community Health with hopes to continue her studies in Higher Education and Student Affairs upon graduation. She currently serves as the Civic Action Now President and the Vice President of Service for the Panhellenic Council, as well as being an active member in Order of Omega, Homecoming Student Steering Committee, and Delta Zeta Sorority. Eventually, she would like to work with the Office of Campus Activities or Fraternity and Sorority Life as a career. Jessica began her service as a CAL in Fall 2011.

Biography:
Meresa is a third year Civic Action Leader and a Senior in the College of Business. She is currently serving as a 2013 Orientation Leader and a Student Intern in the Academic Investment in Mathematics and Science Program (AIMS). Because of CAL and other campus involvement Meresa has decided to continue her education and earn a master’s in Higher Education & Student Affairs. She hopes to earn a position at a university working with a student leadership program similar to CAL. When she is not busy with school Meresa likes to drive home to Michigan and spend quality time with her niece.

Scott Brummel is a junior Liberal Arts Major focusing on Ethnic Studies and working on a Minor in Peace and Conflict Studies. Scott regularly participates and leads social change through the student group Net Impact and Bridge club. He is excited to learn about new ideas and cultures and loves helping others learn about them as well. Scott began his services as a CAL in Fall 2012.

Biography:
Emma is a junior International Studies Major. She is the Vice President of Community Service in Kappa Delta Sorority and strives to enhance the world around her each day. She enjoys learning Spanish, and hopes to join the Peace Corps after completing her Bachelor degree. Emma loves to explore, and cannot wait to see what comes after life in Bowling Green. Emma began her service as a CAL in Fall 2012.

Biography:
Maddi is a junior pursuing a Sociology degree, with an interest in Family and Social Studies. She is involved in fundraising for Bowling Green Teen Central and has a role in planning alternative break service trips for BGSU students. She enjoys being outdoors and is interested in incorporating sustainability and environmental awareness in her everyday life. Maddi hopes that her future after college involves civic action and empowering others to make a difference. Maddi began her service as a CAL in Fall 2012.
