Office of Service-Learning
SAVE THE DATE- January 17, 2011 For Martin Luther King Jr. Day
By Sharon Chittock, Volunteer Program Coordinator/Civic Action Leader
January 17, 2011 is the Martin Luther King Jr. Day of Service Challenge, Sponsored by the Office of Service-Learning! This is an all-day event where the BGSU campus community is encouraged to serve at local agencies in remembrance of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr!
Last year, Over 200 students, faculty, and staff volunteered most of their day to come to the Bowen-Thompson Student Union to volunteer at one of over 15 local agencies. Volunteers could sign-up with a group of friends, organization, or as individuals, and they did not know where they would be serving or what their project would be until they arrived at the service site. This year, we hope to continue this challenge model, since volunteers are encouraged to think creatively and critically in ways to accomplish their service goal.
Some of the agencies that had service projects at their site were the Cocoon Shelter, Wood County Park District, Habitat for Humanity, and the Teen Central.
So, if you are excited about volunteering your time on Martin Luther King Jr. Day on Monday, January 17, 2011, or think you will need volunteers for your agency, look for more information soon or contact BGSUPartnerships@bgsu.edu.
