Crime statistics are compiled in accordance with the guidelines set forth by the Jeanne Clery Disclosure of Campus Security Policy and Campus Crime Statistics Act. These figures include reports of crimes occurring on campus, in non-campus buildings or property, and public property within the City of Bowling Green. These geographic areas are defined as follows:

Campus

  1. Any building or property owned or controlled by BGSU within the same reasonably contiguous geographical area and used by BGSU in direct support of, or in a manner related to, its education purposes, including residence halls; and

  2. Any building or property that is within or reasonably contiguous to the areas identified in paragraph (1), that is owned by BGSU but controlled by another person, is frequently used by students, and supports institutional purposes (such as food or other retail vendor).

Public Property

Public Property is defined as all public property, including thoroughfares, streets, sidewalks, and parking facilities that is within the campus, or immediately adjacent to and accessible from the campus.

Non-Campus Building or Property

  1. Any building or property owned or controlled by a student organization that is officially recognized by the institution; or

  2. Any building or property owned or controlled by an institution that is used in direct support of, or in relation to, the institution's educational purposes, is frequently used by students, and is not within the same contiguous geographic area.

a Hate Crimes 2000: Bias Motivation: 1-Racial (anti-black), 2-Homosexual (anti-male)
NOTE: Bias motivation is reported as required by the Jeanne Cleary Disclosure of Security policy and Campus Crime Statistics Act and the Unified Crime Report.

b Arrest statistics for Public Property are based upon the number of events reported to Bowling Green City Police. Bowling Green City Police Department provided the statistics for Public Property based on the Uniform Crime Reports (UCR) for Bowling Green for all of Ward 1 and portions of Ward 2. The Wood County Sheriff's Office, Maumee Police Department, Toledo Police Department and Perrysburg Police Department provided statistics for Non-Campus Buildings or Properties as a subset of the UCR. Statistical data provided to BGSU by the City of Bowling Green (2000 Uniform Crime Reports, UCR) contained inaccurate public property information for the categories of Burglary and Motor Vehicle Theft. Those numbers have been revised and now reflect accurate data.

c Rape Information: There are occasions when a secondary source will share information regarding an alleged campus rape. In these cases no victim or suspect is named. It is impossible for police to verify whether a crime occurred because of insufficient information regarding the victim, suspect, time, place and incident. This information is recorded for the benefit of our students and the campus community.
