Purpose of Crime
Alerts
One responsibility of the Department of Public
Safety is to inform the University community of serious crimes when
they occur on campus and to aid in the prevention of similar
incidents. The campus "Crime Alert" bulletin is utilized by the
Department for the crimes of arson, aggravated assault, burglary,
manslaughter, motor vehicle theft, murder, rape, robbery, and hate
crime and are found posted on bulletin boards in academic and
nonacademic buildings and both large and small living units. "Crime
Alert" bulletins may also be issued for criminal incidents other than
for those listed when the circumstances of the offense indicate a
particular danger to the community.
