It is with great pleasure that I am able to introduce the Classified Leadership Institute (CLI). This is a new program designed
specifically for classified staff in the Division of Student Affairs at Bowling Green State University. The purpose is to
develop leadership skills for classified staff as it relates to their career. Through panel discussions, work groups, and
examination of various aspects of campus life, participants will gain a greater understanding of the complexities of higher
education administration and BGSU, and discover how classified staff contribute to the dialogue. Participants will also learn
about their strengths and developmental needs through individual assessments and involvement in group projects. Key topics covered by CLI will include managing and leading change, developing and implementing collaborative
partnerships, managing human resource, and developing moral and ethical leadership. Participants will strengthen their skills
in areas such as communication, goal setting, budget knowledge, consensus building and working with integrity. I am writing today to encourage you to apply for participation in the Institute. The time commitment spans one
academic year, one day a month. Please discuss this program with your supervisor and/or director in advance of applying.
Applications are due to Mary Edgington, Bowen-Thompson Student Union Administrative Office, by May 11. Should you have any
questions, please contact any of the committee members listed in the brochure. Thank you in advance for your interest in the Classified Leadership Institute (CLI). This is truly a unique program
and one that will hopefully benefit you personally and professionally and Bowling Green State University. Sincerely, Edward G. Whipple Vice President for Student Affairs
