BGSU Students Attend Peer Education Conference
Over the weekend of April 12th the Wellness Connection took a group of nine peer educators and members of the Student Wellness Network to Ohio State University for the Region 7 BACCHUS Peer Education Conference. During the conference, students attended sessions on a variety of health topics, such as body image, prescription drugs, and sexual health.
Two of the peer educators, Courtney Diener and Brian Krull, presented at the conference. Courtney, who graduated from BGSU this spring, has been involved in peer education since the beginning of her time at BGSU; she even served as a student area coordinator for the national organization this past year. Brian is a sophomore student who transferred to Bowling Green this past fall and participated in the intensive weekend training hosted by the Wellness Connection in January. Since the completion of his training, Brian has been very active in both peer education and the Student Wellness Network. Together Courtney and Brian presented on engaging students in peer education presentations. During their session they shared a variety of activities utilized by peer educators in health and wellness presentation here at BGSU.
During the conference the students also had the opportunity to meet students from other schools in the area, share ideas, and learn more about each other. At the end of the first night, the students participated in a late night alcohol alternative program, which featured a variety of activities and dancing. During the Awards Luncheon held on the final day of the conference, Graduate Student Advisor Sarah DeWitt was awarded the Region 7 Outstanding Advisor of the Year Award. Congratulations to Sarah, Courtney, Brian and all of the students who attended this conference.
