Leading Out Loud
Leadership Week in Review
During the week of January 28th through February 2nd, the Center for Leadership held their annual Leadership Week. This year’s theme was “Leading Out Loud,” and encouraged students to embark on journeys to discover their inner leaders. All programs Sessions were facilitated by either the Student Leadership Assistants from The Center for Leadership or from staff members from Student Affairs. Leadership Week and included included sessions like Lead Classy, Leading Across Difference: LGBTQ Safe Zone Training, and Passion & Commitment: Developing a Leadership Philosophy. The week ended Saturday with a session at the Black Issues Conference where participants explored the essential elements of effective leadership. Because leadership is a process, leaders must know themselves, how they best work with others, and their responsibility to the greater community. The week was full of passionate students and great facilitators all striving to grow as leaders. During the week of successful events, the Center for Leadership also made sure to highlight two additional leadership opportunities. First, the LeaderShape® Institute, which will occur May 6th – 11th, is an intensive and energizing six-day program designed to encourage participants to become leaders with integrity. Applications for this experience are due on February 22nd, 2013, and additional details including how to apply are located below. The second opportunity advertised was BGSU’s Leadership Certificate Program, which certifies students following their engagement in leadership education, mentoring, community service, and practical experiences. Eligible students can enroll in this experience at any time on the Center for Leadership’s webpage.
