State of The State Conference

The 17th Annual State of the StateThe 17th Annual State of the State Conference, which is Ohio’s premiere conference addressing issues of diversity, will be held at BGSU on Tuesday, March 21, 2013. Sponsored by a broad coalition of Ohio institutions and organizations, hundreds of student affairs colleagues, new professionals, non-profit organizations, diversity and social justice advocates, business owners, attorneys and legal professionals, state and local employers, and community members will gather to learn and engage in a state-wide conversation about issues of equity, opportunity and diversity. The State Conference will also address changes and challenges in such areas as affirmative action, college and university admissions and scholarships, employment practices and regulatory and legislative initiatives. Keynote speakers at the conference will be Tim Wise, the author of several books, including White Like Me: Reflections on Race from a Privileged Son, and Color Blind: The Rise of Post-Racial Politics and the Retreat from Racial Equality, and Michelle Alexander, author of the critically-acclaimed The New Jim Crow: Mass Incarceration in the Age of Colorblindness

BGSU students are being encouraged to attend and take advantage of this educational opportunity to enhance their leadership development skills, create networks, and foster a welcoming and inclusive community at no personal cost; fifty student scholarships are being made available through the Target Grant.
