Diversity and Academic Success

Office of Multicultural AffairsThe Diversity Peer Educators are Bowling Green State University diversity student leaders who contribute to the creation of an inclusive campus community by educating and advocating for issues of diversity and inclusion among their peers. These students lead by being exemplar diversity and inclusion leaders, advocates and allies while educating their peers about cultural awareness, diversity and inclusion in an effort to create other inclusive leaders on campus and in the community. The graduate coordinator for the Diversity Peer Educator program is John Killings. Contact him at jkillin@bgsu.edu if you are interested in having the Diversity Peer Educators program for students in your area.

  • Barnga, November 16 at 3:30pm in 207 BTSU
  • Pizza Party with a Catch, November 30 at 3:30pm in 207 BTSU

Students develop a holistic approach to academic and personal success

Over ninety first-year students registered for three sections of the newly created 2-credit hour UNIV 1510: Multicultural Develop Program Class. Multicultural students focus on team building to develop successful academic, personal, community and cultural strategies that helps them participate fully as culturally competent, intellectually engaged, life-long learners. This interactive class builds academic skills, cultural competency skills, persistence strategies and enhances community engagement. In addition, this course integrates diversity, inclusion, and curricular and co-curricular experiences by building upon the principles of the National Coalition Building Institute. Students are encouraged to celebrate and welcome diversity and inclusion while expressing pride in the groups to which they belong based on race, ethnicity, religion, sexual orientation, country of origin, disability, class, etc.
