Dr. Whipple and Jill Carr, Dean of Students, hosted a trip to Philadelphia for eight undergraduate student leaders in conjunction with the BGSU football game versus Temple on Saturday, October 16. The delegation traveled to Philadelphia on Thursday evening, October 14, and enjoyed an Italian dinner and operatic performances at a local restaurant. The next day, participants visited Drexel and Temple Universities; each campus visit included a campus tour, as well as informational meetings with student leaders and campus administrators. On Saturday morning, participants visited the historical area of Philadelphia to see the Liberty Bell, Betsy Ross’s home, and the National Constitution Center before cheering on the Falcons against the Owls that afternoon.

Participants reported many educational gains as a result of the trip. None of the students had ever visited Philadelphia, and some had never traveled by subway before. The campus visits allowed participants to learn new programming ideas from their student counterparts and provided invaluable insights about the culture of urban institutions. Participants have agreed to share their experiences with other students at Ex-Officio and other student organization meetings.
