2009-2010 Greek Leadership Review
The future of Greek leadership at BGSU is off to a strong start as a result of the achievements made this past school year. According to Dr. Jeff Kegolis, Interim Assistant Director of Greek Affairs, the significance of student leadership development has played a large roll in creating an improved leadership continuum. Through combining the efforts of newly designed programs, Greek Affairs has enhanced the students of today and the leaders of tomorrow. Reviewing the achievements of the 2009-2010 school year, Kegolis indicated that Greek Affairs has created a foundation of cohesive and collaborative student leadership programs. Through specific retreats and programming, a leadership model and philosophy have been utilized to bolster chapters and the overall Greek community.
Based on the Greek Affairs Leadership Program Review conducted during the spring semester, Greek Affairs will continue to incorporate peer education and begin to use service learning as a way to adhere to the pillar of service. Additionally, Kegolis explained, “the purpose of the review was to consider the work being done across campus by the Connecting Undergraduate Experience (CUE) committee, the design of the University Learning Outcomes, and the framework for the new leadership certificate.”
Furthermore, Greek Affairs has partnered with Dr. Bryan Cavins, Assistant Dean for Leadership Programs, to incorporate the Leadership Certificate Program (LCP). The LCP is a self-paced, comprehensive, leadership development program designed to augment, enhance and recognize student leadership education and experiences. Cavins referred to Greek Affairs as a natural partner in this new initiative. With the help of several university colleagues, Cavins put together the program to provide a structure for BGSU students to demonstrate their leadership development
As a result of the focused discussions from this past year, Greek Affairs will implement programming efforts to both enhance current opportunities and provide new possibilities in establishing a Greek leadership continuum. Greek Affairs plans to build upon this foundation that allows for the development of successful leaders at BGSU, increasing skill development and the acquisition of knowledge.
