Center for Leadership Inaugural Awards
The Center for Leadership Hosts Inaugural Awards Reception
On Sunday, April 10, the Center for Leadership held its inaugural awards reception by honoring the finalists for the Ray Marvin Leadership Award and the first recipients of the Bowling Green State University Leadership Certificate.
Ray Marvin Leadership Award
BGSU alumnus, Ray Marvin generously donated funds to develop a leadership award designed to recognize student leaders for both their leadership development and the impact their leadership accomplishments have had on BGSU and the surrounding communities.
All undergraduate students were eligible to apply for the Ray Marvin Leadership Award. Applicants were evaluated and ranked by a committee on their academic excellence, participation in leadership education experiences, community service planning and participation, and project team membership and leadership. A special thank you to this year’s judges Dr. Jodi Devine, Dr. Lee Meserve, and Mayor John Quinn.
This year we had 20 outstanding applicants, with seven finalists asked to complete an in-person interview with the selection committee. Our finalists, pictured to the left, were Skyler Rogers, Erin Porter, Heather Utsler, Brionna Powell, Haleigh Sinkewich, Daniel Caldwell, and Chrissy Daniel.
The Ray Marvin Leadership recipients were Daniel Caldwell ($1,000), Heather Utsler ($1,500), and Chrissy Daniel ($2,500). If you know these outstanding BGSU student leaders, please take a moment to congratulate them.
BGSU Leadership Certificate
Also on Sunday, four students earned the BGSU Leadership Certificate, a self-paced, comprehensive leadership development program designed to augment, enhance, and recognize student leadership education and experiences at Bowling Green State University. In order to challenge student leaders, and in the interest of maintaining a standard of qualification, minimum requirements have been established and must be met before a BGSU student can achieve the Leadership Certificate.
This year the Center for Leadership celebrates recipients Kevin Basch, Dan Caldwell, Nicole Chase, and Adison Heyne.
The Center for Leadership would like to thank Dr. Carol Cartwright and Dr. Edward Whipple for their special remarks at the awards reception.
