New Student Orientation -- An Enhanced Experience

BGSU New Student Orientation Station

Future students are now just one click away from a wealth of information about BGSU. Orientation Station, a web site dedicated to providing information about the new student orientation process, is now available. Students and parents can find the information they need and complete some requirements in advance, with the goal of strengthening their sense of connection to BGSU. The hope is that by having information available online, families will be able to interact with BGSU earlier and in a variety of ways.

Andy Alt, assistant dean of students, said there are two valuable benefits. “It’s a way for students and their families to remain engaged in the enrollment process with a check-list of things they have to accomplish and helpful things to think about.” Alt said this format allows them to put all the necessary information about finances, campus life and academics into one spot. “Students who search this page will find more relevant results compared to searching the BGSU home page.”

Orientation Station is just one of the changes implemented to enhance the new student experience -- the program will now last just one day instead of two, eliminating the need for an overnight visit. The change was prompted by feedback from both students and parents asking for a more compact visit. Organizers hope the shorter orientation will heighten the focus on giving a consistent and comprehensive introduction to BGSU for all students.
