The 2011 Paulsen Lecture
The 21st Annual Paulsen Lecture occurs Friday, April 22 at 10 am in Olscamp 101. Dr. Pat Mielke, former Assistant Vice President for Student Affairs at the University of Maryland, College Park, will give this year’s lecture. Her lecture, New Directions for Leadership in Student Affairs, will ask us to examine public and private partnerships in higher education.
Dr. Mielke’s portfolio included the supervision of the Departments of Resident Life, Residential Facilities, Dining Services, Transportation Services, Career Services, Student Union and Conference and Visitor Services. Prior to serving as the Assistant Vice President, she was the Director of Resident Life for sixteen years. Dr. Mielke worked the past twelve years to facilitate the construction of 3,000 public private partnership beds on the College Park campus and actively assisted in the development of numerous living learning programs.
Pat has been very active in ACUHO-I for many years. She served as Host Committee Chair in 1988 and served on the ACUHO-I Executive Board as President (1997) and Eastern District Representative (1995). In addition, she served on the ACUHO-I Foundation Board. She has also been on the faculty for the National Training Institute for several years.
Pat received her doctoral degree for the University of Maryland, College Park, and in addition to providing consulting services for numerous colleges and universities; she has served as an affiliate faculty member for the past twenty-five years. Recently retired, she currently lives in Fountain Hills, Arizona.
