Each graduate receives a limited number of tickets. All available tickets are distributed; therefore, please safeguard your tickets as replacing them may not be possible. Family and friends wishing to view the ceremony in the Bowen-Thompson Student Union may do so in either the Falcon's Nest (first floor) or the Theatre (room 228). The ceremony may also be viewed on Time Warner Community Channel 5 in Bowling Green. Students may attempt to secure additional tickets from classmates who are graduating but have chosen not to attend Commencement. A "ticket exchange" is located on the discussion board in the MyBGSU Blackboard "Graduation/Commencement" community tab or as a discussion thread in your MyBGSU Canvas Community.
Where to Park for Commencement
All campus lots and metered spaces (free on the weekends) will be open, with the exception of Lot 24. This lot is reserved for guests with Commencement parking passes only (see Special Accommodation Seating information). Individuals with state-issued handicapped parking permits may also use Lot 24. Traffic on Alumni Drive and Stadium Drive will be designated for one-way traffic. Please plan accordingly.
Please click on the Campus Map to view campus directions, parking lots, and building locations.
All requirements for graduation must be recorded in the Office of Registration and Records by January 24, 2014. It is your responsibility to make sure that all grade changes, appeals, transfer credits, and incomplete grades are recorded. If you have not met your graduation requirements, you will have to reapply for a later graduation ceremony.
Special Accommodation Seating Arrangements
Graduating students can go on line to their MyBGSU blackboard graduation community or the MyBGSU canvas page and complete the Special Accommodation Seating request form. A packet will be prepared in the student’s name which will contain a reserved parking pass and two reserved seating passes. The packet may be picked up by the student at the 2nd floor cashier of the BGSU Bookstore in the Bowen-Thompson Student Union beginning Thursday, November 14 through 12 p.m. on Friday, December 20. Any remaining packets may be picked up by the student or any family member, at the front desk of the Perry Field House from 12 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. on Friday, December 20th and from 8:30 a.m. – 10:30 a.m. on the morning of Saturday, December 21st. Please Note: Special Accommodation passes only provide access to this reserved seating. Door tickets are still required for entry into the Stroh Center. Due to limited space in the reserved seating area, we ask that only the guest needing the special accommodation and one additional person be seated in this section. If your entire family would like to sit together elsewhere, there is other, non-reserved, seating available. To best accommodate your needs, please make requests early.
* If you require additional information, please email your questions or concerns to firstname.lastname@example.org.
This information is presented in lieu of a Commencement rehearsal.
After diploma covers have been issued, candidates will be asked to stand for the conferring of degrees. After degrees have been conferred, the Bachelor candidates will change their tassels from the right to the left, and the Master's/Doctoral candidates will change their tassels from left to right.
For undergraduates, the honors calculation is based on a minimum of 110 hours in courses that count toward the grade point average. If a student has less than 110 hours that count toward the grade point average, the grade point average requirement is figured using a sliding scale. As the number of grade point average hours decreases, the grade point average requirements for honors increases. The hours and grade point average requirements for students with less than 110 grade point average hours may be obtained in the Office of Registration and Records. The grades earned from other institutions are used in the calculation of honors. Transfer students must also complete 56 hours at Bowling Green State University. A minimum of 30 of those hours must be used in the calculation of the grade point average. Please refer to the Undergraduate Catalog for additional information.
For purposes of Commencement, honors are determined by all grades received and recorded by the Office of Registration and Records by September 20, 2013; graduating term grades are not included. Questions and inquiries should be made with the Office of Registration and Records. For graduate students, there is not an honors designation.
Diplomas will be mailed to the graduate's home address approximately 8 to 10 weeks following Commencement. Teaching certificate applications will be mailed from the College of Education and Human Development to the state departmental processing. Please note that transcripts and degree information will not be available until three weeks after Commencement, provided you have completed all degree requirements.
All requirements for graduation must be recorded in the Office of Registration and Records by January 24, 2014. Please direct any questions regarding degree requirements, honors, mailing of diplomas to the Office of Registration and Records at 419-372-8435.
