In case of inclement weather, Commencement tickets are required for the August ceremony. Each student receives four tickets for the indoor ceremony. All available tickets are distributed; therefore, please safeguard your tickets as replacing them may not be possible. Family and friends wishing to view the ceremony but not holding a ticket may view the ceremony in Bowen-Thompson Student Union Falcon’s Nest and/or the Bowen-Thompson Student Union Theatre. The ceremony will be broadcast live on a large screen, closed-circuit television. Students may find additional tickets from classmates who are graduating but have chosen not to attend the commencement ceremony. A "ticket exchange" is located on the discussion board in MyBGSU Blackboard under the Graduation/Commencement community tab.

The intent of the ticket exchange board is to facilitate the EXCHANGE of Commencement tickets. The SALE of tickets or a monetary offer to PURCHASE tickets is a violation of University policy. Posts of this nature will be removed. Violators are subject to University disciplinary action.

  Where to Park for Commencement

All campus lots and metered spaces (free on the weekends) will be open with the exception of Lot A next to Hanna and University Halls.  This lot is reserved for people with Commencement parking passes only (see Special Accommodation Seating information).  Individuals with state-issued handicapped parking permits may also use Lot A. In case of inclement weather and an indoor ceremony, traffic on Wooster Street, Mercer Road, Alumni Drive and Stadium Drive will all be designated for one-way traffic.  Please plan your time accordingly (see Stroh Parking).  All campus lots and metered spaces (which are free on the weekends) will be open.  Parking for guests with a special accommodation seating dashboard permit or a state-issued handicapped parking permit may park in the reserved section of the Stroh Center, Lot 24.

Please see the above attached campus maps to view parking lots and building locations for either situation.

  Ceremony Instructions

This information is presented now in lieu of a Commencement rehearsal.

The ceremony will last approximately two hours. The candidates from each college will be presented to the president, and the candidates will proceed row by row to the platform under the direction of the marshals. Candidates will remain seated until their row moves to the aisle to proceed to the stage. The name of each graduate will be announced, and those persons graduating with honors will be recognized. Each candidate will pass in front of the diploma table, receive a diploma cover, and return to their original seat and be seated.

After diploma covers have been issued, candidates will be asked to stand for the conferring of degrees. After degrees have been conferred, the Bachelor candidates will change their tassels from the right to the left, and the Master's/Doctoral candidates will change their tassels from left to right.

  Honors

The honors calculation (pertains to undergraduates only) is based on a minimum of 110 hours in courses that count toward the grade point average. If a student has less than 110 hours that count toward the grade point average, the grade point average requirement is figured using a sliding scale. As the number of grade point average hours decreases, the grade point average requirements for honors increases. The hours and grade point average requirements for students with less than 110 grade point average hours may be obtained in the Office of Registration and Records. The grades earned from other institutions are used in the calculation of honors. Transfer students must also complete 56 hours at Bowling Green State University. A minimum of 30 of those hours must be used in the calculation of the grade point average. Please refer to the Undergraduate Catalog for additional information.

For purposes of Commencement, honors are determined by all grades received and recorded by the Office of Registration and Records by June 21, 2013; graduating term grades are not included. Questions and inquiries should be made with the Office of Registration and Records.

  Mailing Diplomas

Diplomas will be mailed to the graduate's home address approximately 8 to 10 weeks following Commencement. Teaching certificate applications will be mailed from the College of Education and Human Development to the state departmental processing. Please note that transcripts and degree information will not be available until three weeks after Commencement, provided you have completed all degree requirements.

All requirements for graduation must be recorded in the Office of Registration and Records by September 6, 2013.

Please direct any questions regarding degree requirements, honors, mailing of diplomas to the  Office of Registration and Records at 419-372-8435.
