Greek Weekend debuted April 8-10, engaging students of the BGSU Fraternity and Sorority Life community in positive sportsmanship, competitive drive, and team spirit. The weekend was sponsored by Fraternity and Sorority
Life, but would not have been possible without the hard work of many dedicated student leaders representing Greek Weekend Steering, New Member Greek Council, and the Greek Community Programming Team. These groups oversaw all planning and programming efforts of Greek Weekend and hope their efforts have benefited and enhanced the experiences of the BGSU Fraternity and Sorority Life community.
Fraternities and sororities were organized into teams and competed in a variety of events highlighting scholarship, service, leadership, and brotherhood and sisterhood. Participating teams earned points in several categories prior to and throughout the weekend. Bonus opportunities for additional points were also available to those teams completing community service.
Following a kickoff celebration on Friday, teams competed in trivia. Questions focused on BGSU fun facts, popular culture, and Greek Life. Saturday’s events highlighted athleticism and included a knockout tournament, relay races, and a kickball tournament. Following egg jousting, Greek Weekend culminated with Greek Sing and an awards program Sunday afternoon.
Greek Sing is a lip-syncing and dance competition new to BGU’s Fraternity and Sorority Life community. Teams choreographed routines, designed costumes, and held rehearsals to perfect their performances and were evaluated on synchronization, complexity, originality, energy, appearance, crowd response, and humor of performance. More than 430 Greek students attended the event as well as parents, friends, and non-affiliated students of the BGSU community.
Greek Sing winners included Sigma Kappa and Alpha Tau Omega in third place; Chi Omega and Pi Kappa Alpha in second place; and Delta Gamma and Phi Gamma Delta (FIJI) in first place. Overall Greek Weekend winners included Alpha Xi Delta and Alpha Sigma Phi in third place; Alpha Phi and Lambda Chi Alpha in second place; and Delta Gamma, Phi Gamma Delta (FIJI), and Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc. in first place.
The Fraternity and Sorority Life community is looking forward to the continuation of Greek Weekend and Greek Sing. The intention is for these events to become cherished traditions for, and staples of, the Fraternity and Sorority Life community at BGSU.
