  Summary of Features of Renovated BGSU Bowen-Thompson Student Union
  • Size : Since its opening in January 2002, the renovated BGSU Student Union has become the "living room" and focal point of the University community on campus, with an exciting design and function, the result of a long, deliberate process and study taking into account student input at all junctures. Among other major changes and improvements, the total square footage was expanded from 110,000 to approximately 220,000.
  • Meeting Rooms : Eleven meeting rooms of varying sizes for use by students, faculty, administration, and community of northwest Ohio.

  • Retail : An array of retail services and conveniences are available, including:

    University Bookstore: owned and operated by BGSU, the University Bookstore approximately doubled in size from its previous location
    Peregrine Shop: convenience store operated by University
    Stamper's Mail and Copy center
    ATM's: four machines

  • Lounges : There are a number of comfortable and human-scale lounges and "pocket lounges" for socializing, relaxing, studying, watching TV, and student activities.

    Main Lobby Lounge: Centrally located and visible from several levels of the Union, promoting casual meeting and public gathering of students, faculty and staff, totaling 2,500 square feet.

    Dimling Family Lounge: On a front corner of the Union, with a fabulous view of the heart of the BGSU campus, away from greater levels of noise/activity, promoting quiet study and reading. 2,500 square feet.

    Pre-Function Lounges: Several small lounges serving as seating and reception areas for theater, ballroom, and meeting rooms. 1,200 total square feet.

    Pocket Lounges: A variety of small lounges throughout the Student Union, promoting casual meeting and semi-quiet study. 1,000 total square feet.

    TV Lounge: A first floor lounge of 250 square feet, for television viewing and relaxing.
    Student Activities Lounge: To accommodate informal meetings and socializing by organizations conducting events in the Union, located on the fourth floor. 3,700 square feet.

  • Entertainment & Programming : A variety of recreation and entertainment is offered in state-of-the art-facilities, including:

    The  Lenhart Grand Ballroom, the only major room retained from the old University Union. It received a major facelift, and state of the art audio-visual capabilities were added.

    Multipurpose Room: For parties, meetings, musical events, awards ceremonies, and other programming.

    Theater: seating 250, featuring surround sound for film and also used for presentations, teleconferences, and small performances.

    Pub: entertainment/sports hall eatery; seating 125.

    Computer Facilities: State of the art micro-computer lab for general use (3,500 square feet), designed to facilitate group work. Open 24 hours during the main academic year.
  • Dining Areas : A number of different dining options and atmospheres are featured.

    Food Court: The food court area offers a wide range of staffed and self-serve foods, including salad, soups and desserts, full entrée area, pizza, pasta, deli, ice cream counter, Steak Escape, and grab 'n' go area. It is run by the University Dining Services. Seating for 500-600, 8,000 square feet, plus serving area of 4,200 square feet.

    Wendy's: A franchise of the popular hamburger restaurants.

    Starbucks: Multifunctional setting featuring coffee bar and pastries.

Bowling Greenery: More formal dining with wait service and more elegant seating arrangement. 2,200 square feet.
