Eligibility Requirements

All full-time Domestic Students taking eight credit hours or more on the main campus will automatically be charged for the insurance, and have premiums applied to their student account, unless a waiver showing proof of other coverage is submitted. The requirement does not apply to Domestic Students exclusively at BGSU Firelands or distance-learning students. All International Students, regardless of credit hours are required by the University to enroll in this plan, with the exception of students fully sponsored under a select international organization (Example; Fulbright Scholarships), approved coverage provided by their embassy, or coverage provided by a U.S. based company. These students MUST come to the Student Insurance Office to waive the BGSU-sponsored coverage or they will be required to pay the premium charged to their Bursar account.

Students taking 5, 6 or 7 credit hours are also eligible to participate on a voluntary basis. Students must be enrolled in a degree seeking program and actively attend classes during the period for which coverage is purchased. Students may also voluntarily enroll their eligible spouses and dependent children. Please contact the Student Insurance Office for additional information.
