Guidelines for Funding for Professional Development (FPD)
Fall DEADLINE September 25, 2009 Decisions will be emailed on October 2 &3.
Funding for professional development (FPD) is designed to supplement costs for graduate students participating in professional
activities (i.e. conferences, workshops, recitals, etc.).
Eligibility
Applicants must be enrolled in the semester they seek funding within BGSU's Graduate College, registered for at least 6 credit
hours, and in good standing with the Graduate College.
The applicant's department must be in good standing with Graduate Student Senate (GSS) at the end of the previous semester.
Applicants from departments not in good standing with GSS at the end of the previous semester will not be considered for FPD.
Applicants are responsible for knowing
Only one FPD application is accepted per activity.
Application Process - a complete application will include the following:
Cover Page: Applicants' name, P-number, applicant's academic department, contact information, activity details, total amount requested,
and applicant's electronic signature. All items must be complete.
Description of the professional development activity: A detailed (line) budget to describe anticipated and researched expenses and revenues (specifically from funds provided by
a department or other organization) as well as a statement (50 words or less) describing the nature of the event and how it
constitutes a professional development activity.
Notification of Award: Individuals will be notified via their BGSU e-mail account. If an individual has not been contacted on the prescheduled dates
via e-mail, please contact the GSS office.
Funding Guidelines and Appropriate Use of FPD
All eligible applicants will receive equal funding up to the student's annual limit of $275.00.
FPD will be considered only for expenses related to transportation, lodging, and registration.
FPD will not be provided for meals, food expenses, materials, or other social activities.
FPD will only be granted as reimbursements, with original receipts and proof of attendance when submitted to the GSS office
within 30 days of travel. Receipts and proof of attendance will NOT be accepted after 30 days of last date of travel during
the academic year as defined by BGSU.
Applicants are eligible for maximum distribution of $275 per academic year. The actual amount received is dependent upon the
number of applications and funding available within any given semester.
Applicants may only apply for FPD during the defined period of time.
BGSU standards must be used in calculating expenses (i.e. current mileage rates, etc.), and current information is located at www.bgsu.edu/offices/business/page22084.html.
All applications and proposed expenses will be verified and considered confidentially by the GSS Treasurer.
Instructions and Notes
Please include your name and other identifying information only when asked. Complete ALL sections of the application; do not
leave anything blank.
When funds are granted, original receipts and proof of attendance must be submitted to GSS no later than 30 days after the
completion of the activity for reimbursement.
Below are timelines for the submission, notification, and appeals of completed applications; all are 5:00pm deadlines, and
materials must be submitted using this form.
If an applicant is receiving funding from their academic department he/she should submitted receipts and documentation to
their department and request that the material is forward to the GSS office, 402 BTSU.
