Registration |
 |
|
The University requires the registration of any motor vehicle within 48 hours of its initial arrival on campus, that is owned
or operated by a student or faculty/staff member, when such vehicle is parking on any property owned or leased by the University.
Motor vehicles parking on University-owned or leased property must be registered with the appropriate state or government
agency and display their current license plate.
|
| Student Vehicle Registration |
 |
The current registration cost will be billed to the individual’s University account through the Bursar’s office. You may register
your vehicle on-line by accessing http://my.bgsu.edu and going to My Services—Parking Registration. The following information is required when registering: student ID number,
license plate number, year and make of vehicle, official class standing and valid student ID. Your parking permit request
will be processed within 24 hours and you may pick up your permit the next business day. Full-time student registration expires
annually. Evening student registration permits expire at the end of the semester in which the permit was issued.
|
| Regulations |
 |
1. Responsibility for locating a legal parking space rests with the operator of the motor vehicle. Lack of space is not considered
a valid reason for violating any parking regulations.
2. No person shall park any motor vehicle on campus in any location other than an authorized and designated parking area.
3. Parallel white lines define a designated space. All vehicles must park within the boundaries of a parking space. The fact
that other vehicles are parked improperly shall not constitute an excuse for parking with any part of the vehicle on or over
any line.
4. No vehicle is to be parked or driven in such a manner as to obstruct vehicular or pedestrian traffic. All drives are fire
lanes whether posted or not. A yellow curb or yellow lines at the end of a row may also designate a fire lane in lieu of a
posted fire lane sign. Parking adjacent to yellow curbing or on yellow lines is prohibited.
5. All commuter lots are closed between the hours of 3 a.m. and 5 a.m., Monday through Friday.
6. Students are responsible for informing guests of parking regulations. Overnight visitor parking is available in metered spaces
or other areas as designated on a permit obtained from the Parking and Traffic Office.
|
| Visitor Parking |
 |
Visitors are subject to all parking regulations. Visitors may park in any metered space without displaying a BGSU parking
permit. An appropriate parking permit must be displayed when parking in any space other than a metered space. Visitors may
obtain a parking permit and map from the Visitor Information Center or at the Parking and Traffic Office, 104 Commons, 419-372-2776.
A free visitor shuttle service is available, originating at the Visitor Information Center at the main campus entrance and
going to various locations on campus. Information regarding the shuttle service is available at the Visitor Information Center
or by calling 419-372-0236. Visitors who ride the shuttle may obtain a free parking permit at the Visitor Information Center
and park in Lot 20 adjacent to the main campus entrance.
|
| Assessment/Appeals |
 |
|
The registered driver, or registered student in possession of the vehicle, or employed faculty/staff member, or owner will
be held responsible for all parking assessments issued to the vehicle. A student or faculty/staff member charged with a violation
may pay the appropriate assessment at the Office of the Bursar. If paying a fine via fine box, please pay by check.
Violation notices incurred on vehicles registered by the state in the name of the parents, guardians, spouse or other family
members of a student will be charged to the student unless the owner acknowledges and assumes responsibility for the violation(s).
An undergraduate student has the right to appeal a parking violation through the Undergraduate Student Government Procedures
and Appeals Board within 21 days after the issuance of the ticket. A faculty/staff member or graduate student has the right
to appeal a parking violation through the Faculty/Staff Parking Appeal committee within 21 days after the issuance of the
ticket. After the 21-day period, the appeal may be considered if there are circumstances which create an exception. Forms
for appeals are available online.
