Celebratory Riots and Riot-Related Offenses

Ohio State law has been revised making the impact of criminal convictions for riot-related offenses much greater. In addition to possible criminal conviction and/or University discipline, the law states that if a student is convicted of certain riot-related crimes, the student will become ineligible for financial aid supported by state funds for two calendar years. The two year period begins from the time the student applies for financial assistance if he or she has been convicted of, pled guilty to, or been adjudicated for any of the following violations:

1. A violation of Ohio Revised Code Section 2917.02 (aggravated riot) or
Ohio Revised Code Section 2917.03 (riot).

2. A violation of Ohio Revised Code Section 2917.04 (failure to disperse)
that is a misdemeanor of the fourth degree and occurs within the
proximate area where four or more others are acting in a course
of conduct in violation of Ohio Revised Code Section 2917.11
(disorderly conduct).

3. A violation of Ohio Revised Code Section 2917.11 (disorderly conduct).
