Associate Director of Residence Life for Residential Education
The Associate Director of Residence Life is responsible for all of the residential educational initiatives directed and supported
by the Office of Residence Life. These responsibilities include the selection, supervision, training and evaluation of administrative,
classified, and student staff who work in the residence halls, the creation and support of new and existing living/learning
residential programs, and the coordination of all programs and services for students who live in campus residence halls.
Assistant Director of Residence Life for Residential Education
The Assistant Director of Residence Life (Residential Neighborhoods) is responsible for the overall operation of an area of
undergraduate residence halls that house between 1,500 and 1,900 students. Responsibilities include the supervision of a residence
hall secretary or secretaries, full-time hall directors, part-time graduate hall directors and hall security and desk staff,
administration of the area budget, oversight of area facility issues, and the coordination of area judicial affairs.
Assistant Director of Residence Life for Leadership Programs
The Assistant Director of Residence Life for Leadership Programs has specific responsibility for the overall development and
management of the Office of Residence Life leadership programs for the functional areas of Residential Education and Greek
Affairs. In this capacity, the Assistant Director of Residence Life for Leadership Programs works primarily with students
and staff within the Office of Residence Life and the Office of Campus Involvement to improve the leadership opportunities
offered to all residential students (approximately 7,000) and students involved in fraternities and sororities (approximately
1,500).
SMART Program Coordinator (Full-time)
The SMART Program Coordinator is responsible for the coordination of the Students of Color Mentoring, Aiding, Retaining, and
Teaching (SMART) Program (approx. 250 students) within the BGSU residential community. Responsibilities include: selection,
supervision, training, and evaluation of the graduate student, team leader and mentor staff members; event planning and program
development.
Leadership Coordinator
To coordinate the various leadership efforts and programs for students offered by the Office of Residence Life; coordinate
the operations of the Leaders in Residence program and the Advanced Leaders in Residence class, co-advise the Resident Student
Association, serve as a liaison between Residence Life and the Office of Campus Involvement, provide leadership and guidance
to residence hall government (Hall Council) advisors, and coordinate service learning efforts in the Office of Residence Life.
SMART Program Coordinator (Graduate)
The Office of Residence Life’s S.M.A.R.T. (Students of Color Mentoring, Aiding, Retaining, and Teaching) Program is a mentoring
program designed to provide social, cultural, leadership, and academic support to first-year students of color living in the
residence halls at BGSU. The S.M.A.R.T. Program Coordinator position provides supervision, leadership development, and support
to the S.M.A.R.T. Team Leaders and Mentors, who are upper-class undergraduate students living in the residence halls. This
position requires the S.M.A.R.T. Coordinator to oversee the planning of programs and events for the S.M.A.R.T. mentees.
Residence Hall Director
The Residence Hall Director is responsible for the residential life of an undergraduate residence hall housing between 300
and 850 students. The responsibilities may include: the supervision of secretary, graduate hall director, resident advisor
staff, and hall desk staff; implementation of academic initiatives; oversight of facility issues; advising of hall government;
and, the coordination of hall discipline programs.
Graduate Hall Director
The Graduate Hall Director is responsible for assisting the Residence Hall Director in administering the residential life
of an undergraduate residence hall housing between 300 and 850 students. The responsibilities may include: the supervision
of resident advisor staff and hall desk staff; implementation of academic initiatives; oversight of facility issues; advising
of hall government; and, working with hall discipline programs.
Administrative Resident Advisor
An Administrative Resident Advisor is a part-time paraprofessional staff member in the Office of Residence Life who operates
in the physical setting of a residence hall. The Administrative Resident Advisor works closely with and is directly responsible
to a Residence Hall Director. The Administrative Resident Advisor keeps the Residence Hall Director informed of activities,
problems, and needs of the residents. The Administrative Resident Advisor helps to establish and maintain open lines of communication
between residents of the residence hall and the Office of Residence Life. The Administrative Resident Advisor is a full academic
year commitment.
Resident Advisors
The Resident Advisor is a part-time paraprofessional staff member of the Office of Residence Life who lives in an assigned
residence hall. The Resident Advisor works closely with, and is directly responsible to, the Residence Hall Director. The
Resident Advisor keeps the supervisor informed of activities, problems, and needs of the residents. The Resident Advisor
helps to establish and maintain open lines of communication between residents of the hall and the Office of Residence Life.
This appointment is for one full academic year.
SMART Team Leader
The Residence Life SMART Team Leader will be responsible for providing direction and leadership for up to seven Peer Mentors.
In addition he/she will perform administrative duties within the program. The SMART Team Leader is also responsible for developing
a positive, supportive, helping relationship with first year students of color. The Team Leader will work with the first
year students in making the adjustment to college life at Bowling Green State University.
SMART Peer Mentor
The Residence Life SMART Mentor is responsible for developing a positive, supportive, helping relationship with first-year
students of color (mentee). The SMART Mentor will work with the first-year students in making the adjustment to college life
at Bowling Green State University.
Student Clerk
Student Clerks assist the residence hall staff in the daily operation of a residence hall. The Student Clerk works under the
supervision of the Administrative Resident Advisor (ARA) and performs a variety of clerical tasks, general operational services
for residents and visitors, and a variety of safety tasks. Student Clerks may be asked to work a variety of hours to accommodate
the coverage needs of the residence hall.
