Outdoor Program - Spring 2012Trips
Get outside, enjoy nature, expand outdoor skills and respect the environment. Adventure trips include hiking, backpacking, winter camping, snowshoeing, mountain biking, white water rafting, canoeing, skiing, snow-boarding, and horseback riding are planned this year. Read about receiving college credit for Outdoor Program PEG classes on the Wire. To register for a trip, complete the Online Registration Form.
Winter Waterfalls Overnight The Hocking Hills…one of Ohio’s most scenic areas, and just a short drive away. | Wilderness Survival Weekend Do you have what it takes to survive? Imagine being in lost in the woods with only your wits and a few basic survival tools. Learn navigation, fire building, and shelter construction on this weekend of survival and test yourself against the elements. |
Cross Country Skiing Daytrip Though a short distance from the urban environments of Cleveland and Akron, Cuyahoga Valley National Park seems worlds away. The winding Cuyahoga, the "crooked river" as named by the American Indians, gives way to deep forests, rolling hills, and open farmlands. Enjoy the powder while skiing along the ledges of Ohio's only National Park. | Canoeing & Rappeling A day of canoeing and a day of rappelling give the best of both worlds. Enjoy Hocking Hills State parks beautiful river and cliffs from every angle. Come out for the weekend and experience the adventure of a 120 foot rappel. |
Snowshoeing Overnight Walk on top of the snow instead of through it! Snowshoeing the Hoist Lakes trail system in Huron National Forest will take you over hills to admire scenic vistas and past the shores of frozen lakes. | Moonlight Canoe Paddle the Blanchard River on a beautiful spring night. Canoe past wildlife, rapids, and rock formations under a waning April moon. |
Spring Break Backpacking & Service Learning Experience the beginning of the historic Appalachian Trail. Hike through old growth forest and meadows to scenic mountain vistas. Included with this trip is a service learning component working with the Georgia Appalachian Trail Club to learn how this incredible trail is maintained for sustainability. | Backpacking Overnight What better way to de-stress than to spend a weekend backpacking. Experience beautiful views, eat delicious food and sleep under the stars. |
Spring Break Caving Spend spring break discovering some of Alabama's caves with their many jaw-dropping cave formations (speleothems). Journey through a labrynth of over 15 miles of caves and get down and dirty in this underground wonder land. | Rock Climbing Weekend Known for it's towering sandstone cliffs, Kentucky's Red River Gorge is a premier climbing destination. The vast number of bolted routes in overhanging, pocketed sandstone draws climbers from all over the world to "the Red" as it is known. Spend the weekend before finals "getting after it" at the Red. After climbing some of these routes finals feel like a breeze! |
Canoeing Overnight Enjoy this early spring weekend canoeing one of Indiana's most famous rivers. The water is amazingly clear and several small green islands add to the natural beauty of the Tippecanoe River. Relax and celebrate the end of winter paddling and canoeing along the river bank. | Canoeing Daytrip The Maumee River has the largest watershed of any Great Lakes River giving it the nick-name "Mighty Maumee." Spend the day paddling from Grand Rapids to Waterville and experience the beauty and might of this treasure of Northwest Ohio. |
