OUTDDOOR PROGRAM TRIPS

We get outside, enjoy nature, expand outdoor skills and respect the environment. Adventure trips include hiking, backpacking, winter camping, snowshoeing, mountain biking, white water rafting, canoeing, skiing, snow-boarding, and horseback riding. Generally, these awesome adventures take place in a wide variety of wilderness settings around the Eastern and Central United States. Scroll down for more information.

SNOWSHOEING TRIP Saturday-Sunday
February 9 - February 10
Join us for a weekend of snowshoeing on the beautiful back country rail of Reid Lake in Barton, MI. We will be spending two full days snowshoeing up to 12 miles.

SKIING TRIP Saturday
February 23
We will be heading to Mad River Mountain in Southern Ohio. This trip includes your lift ticket and transportation to and from the resort. There will be games, prizes and fun for every skill level at MRM! Rentals are available at the resort.

5TH ANNUAL CLIMBING COMPETION Sunday
February 24
A fun and competitive competition for all skill levels with prizes awarded to the top three in each category. Come join BG climbers as well as those from the surrounding communities in this exciting event. The event is open to anyone 18 years or older.
   
  Cost: $35 Students/Members - $40 Non-Members

  Skill Level: Categories are available for men's and women's divisions in beginner, intermediate, and advanced.    
           
CAVING TRIP: SCOTTSBORO, AL SPRING BREAK

March 1-March 8
We will be heading south to Alabama's karst country to explore the caves of the Scottsboro region. With four days of caving and one day of hiking, this trip offers something for everyone. Sights will include the Walls of Jericho State Park, Tumbling Rock and Limrock cave, and rappelling over 150 feet. Cost includes transportation, staffing, and equipment (backpack, tent, stoves, sleeping bag, H2O filters, etc.).
   
  Cost: $195 Students/Members - $210 Non-Members

AT BACKPACKING: NORTH CAROLINA SPRING BREAK

Spend your spring break on a High Adventure trip on the most beautiful terrain in North Carolina! We'll be hiking up to 45 miles of the famous Appalachian Trail. No experience necessary, just a sense of adventure and energy to spend active time in the great outdoors! What a great way to shed the stress and challenges of the spring semester. Cost includes transportation, staffing, and equipment (backpacks, tent, stoves, sleeping bag, H2O filters, etc.).

KAYAKING WORKSHOP Monday
March 17, 24, 31 & April 7, 14
This workshop includes five classes taught by an American Canoe Association Instructor an all equipment. These classes will teach the basics associated with flat-water kayaking. This includes basic equipment, strokes, and the eskimo roll.

MOUNTAIN BIKING Saturday
March 29
Join the OP for a great day trip to the outdoors to experience mountain biking on the Potawtomi Trail in Pickney, Michigan. Bring your own bike or rent one when we get there, and come ride over 17 miles of scenic biking trail. $15 discount if you have your own bike!

HORSEBACK RIDING Sunday
March 30
Come ride with us through some of Ohio's most beautiful scenery. We'll be riding for 2 hours with Swancreek Stables at Oak Openings. This is a great way to take a mid-semester break from classes.

OAK OPENINGS Saturday
April 5
Join students from all over campus for this one day volunteer event in Oak Openings. Student organizations, Greek life, and BGSU faculty/staff are invited to join together to help improve what the Nature Conservancy has deemed on of the 200 "Last Great Places on Earth".

RAPPELING & ASCENDING Saturday
April 19
The trip is located at Hocking Hills where you will learn the art of rappelling and ascending. After learning all the techniques, end the day with an exciting 120ft rappel off of Big Springs.

OUTDOOR ROCK CLIMBING Saturday
April 26
Join the OP at the Grand Ledges located at Oak Park in Grand Ledge, MI. The Ledges offer over 100 top rope and bouldering routes on sandstone. This trip is available to any climber of any level who wants to climb outdoors. There will be something for everyone.

BACKPACKING & CANOEING POST GRADUATION

Celebrate the end of another great school year with a final trip to the Land Between the Lake National Recreation are in Kentucky. With over 300 miles of lakeshore and nearly 170,00 acres of undeveloped land, Land Between the Lakes is a backpacker's paradise! Spend six days of backpacking with an extra day of canoeing to explore the vast beauty of this park.
