GROUP SKATING LESSONS - FAMILY FOCUS
THE HOLMAN FAMILY

The Holman’s involvement in the sport of ice skating began after they read articles in the Sentinel-Tribune and heard through others how the BG Community, and especially Bowling Green State University, supported figure skating and hockey programs for youth.  Al and Dawn (Dad and Mom) did not grow up near an ice arena and neither had the opportunity to get involved in skating as youngsters.  After their first daughter, Emily, was born, they wanted to give her the opportunity to learn to skate.

Emily began skating in the BGSU Group Lesson Program in 2002 when she was only 2 years old.  Now 6 years old, she has progressed to Intermediate – Basic 3.  Although when she first started skating she was a little intimidated on the ice, she has grown to love skating and enjoys spending time on the ice each week.  She has had the pleasure of working with different coaches over the past few years including; Amber Csizny, and Shelly Bressler.

Emily’s younger sister, MacKenzie can also be seen on the ice each week.  MacKenzie is 2 years old and started skating in November.   Thanks to lessons and to practice time with “daddy”, MacKenzie is quickly improved, is standing up and taking off on her own! She likes to be on the ice watching the other children, especially Emily.

Another member of the Holman Family is Emily and MacKenzie’s baby sister, Marissa who is 7 months old.  While Daddy is on the ice each week with the Emily and MacKenzie, Mommy and Marissa can be seen cheering them on through the “viewing window”.  Marissa loves the action and can’t wait to be big enough to skate with her older sisters.  Be sure to look for Marissa out on the ice in the Fall of 2008.

Here is a special personal note from the Holman family:

If your family is blessed with children, go get them a pair of skates and get involved in the Group Lessons Programs at BGSU.  Our family is looking forward to being involved in the BGSU skating programs for many years!  We would like to thank Shelly and all the coaching staff at the BGSU Ice Arena for their time and effort, their influence on our children has been very positive and has been a great experience for our entire family.
