SUMMER FIGURE SKATING SCHOLARSHIPS
Annually, the BGSU Ice Arena awards scholarships designated to offset the cost of ice time during the Ice Arena Summer Figure
Skating Program. Winning skaters are recognized in local papers, receive an engraved plaque and have their name on a permanent
plaque displayed at the Ice Arena.

Started by the Thurman family and further supported by Scott Hamilton, in appreciation for support received during his developing
years, the scholarships are designed to promote and encourage competitive level figure skating and to recognize individual accomplishments, dedication and good sportsmanship.

SCHOLARSHIP SELECTION CRITERIA
1. Demonstrated an interest in and an ability in figure skating.
2. Attended skating sessions on a regular basis throughout the skating season.
3. Passed at least the USFSA Pre-Preliminary Freestyle Test or all three Preliminary Dance Tests.
4. Demonstrated acceptable behavior on the ice.

SCHOLARSHIP DESCRIPTIONS
Scott Hamilton Award: Named in honor of Scott Hamilton, Bowling Green native, 2 time Olympian and 4 time World Figure Skating Champion. Minimum Requirements: USFS Pre-Preliminary Freestyle Test or all three Preliminary Dance Tests.
Kay Thurman Award: Named in honor of former BGSU Ice Arena Business Manager. Minimum Requirements: USFS Pre-Preliminary Freestyle Test or all three Preliminary Dance Tests.

Marissa Rose Memorial Scholarship: Named in memory of 16 year old Bowling Green Skating Club member. Minimum Requirements: USFS Pre-Preliminary Freestyle Test or all three Preliminary Dance Tests. The 2008 winner is Michelle

Dr. F. Fred Householder Award: Named in memory of Bowling Green Figure Skating Club long time member and supporter. Minimum Requirements: USFS Basic 8.
