BGSU PERSONAL TRAINERS Story by Allison Kemp, BGSU Student Recreational Sports Writer - Fall 2007
So you want to exercise, lose some weight, look good in a new outfit, but you really don’t know where to start.
Going to the BGSU Student Recreation Center and experimenting with the equipment might not be the best way to start. If you
don’t have any experience with using the equipment or want a workout tailored to your needs, call the Fitwell Lifestyle Center.
The Fitwell Lifestyle Center, which is part of Recreational Sports, offers personal trainers to help with those needs. Located
in the Student Recreation Center, the service is available to everyone. For one session, which costs $20, a trainer will make
an exercise program based on the person's wants, said Jonathan Price, the head personal trainer. During this session, the
student will be shown how to use the necessary equipment.
Three sessions are also available, which costs $50. With these sessions, the trainer will take his student through the workout,
providing more instruction than time permits during the single session.
Most of the participants in this program are beginners, Price said, which he enjoys because he likes promoting a healthy lifestyle.
“We’re steering towards getting more people active,” Price said. “[The program] gives people a more knowledgeable basis
for trying to exercise.” A problem beginners face is not knowing which exercises target which muscles, Price said. The trainers
will provide those answers.
The program is not only for beginners, though, said Price. If advanced students have plateaued and are looking for a change
to their routine, the trainers can help here, too. “We pride ourselves on breaking plateaus,” Price said.
The trainers are also available for questions during special times at the BGSU Student Recreation Center’s front desk. During
these times, they can answer basic questions and conduct assessments.
