COOPER POOL RULES
Cooper Pool Rules are enforced by the Student Recreation Center (SRC) Staff. Any questions may be directed to a lifeguard or staff member on
duty.
General Rules

|
|
- SRC personnel in charge at all times.
- Shower prior to swimming, especially after exercise.
- Band-Aids, adhesive tape, and any type of bandage must be removed prior to entering the pool.
- Swim only when Lifeguard is on duty.
- Proper swimming attire is required at all times. Street clothes and gymnasium clothes (cut-off, cotton shorts, etc.) are not
to be permitted in the pools or spa.
- Diving permitted in deep water only.
- Food, gum, and beverages prohibited.
- Glass containers prohibited on deck.
- Street clothes should be placed in a locker, not on deck, before swimming.
- No running or disruptive play.
- No flotation devices or small toys are allowed in Cooper Pool.
- Children 7 years of age and under are restricted to Andrews Pool unless they are (1) directly (in-water) supervised by an
adult, (2)can touch the bottom of Cooper Pool with their heads completely out of the water, and (3) can swim one width of
Cooper Pool un-assisted. Lifeguards reserve the right to test the child before allowing them to swim in Cooper Pool.
- Lifeguards reserve the right to test persons swimming in deep water, for their own safety. You must be able to swim one width
of the Cooper Pool un-assisted.
- Regular diapers are NOT allowed in either Andrews or Cooper Pool. All infant children must wear a diaper designed for swimming.
- Persons with skin diseases, infections or open sores are prohibited from using the pool(s).
- Do not allow patrons to swim over or hang on lane markers or deep water lines.
- Only SRC employees are allowed on the bulkhead.
- Swimming underneath the bulkhead is strictly prohibited
- Smoking is not permitted in either pool area or on the sundeck/patio area.
- Persons appearing to be intoxicated will be asked to leave the facility. Alcohol is not permitted anywhere in or around the
facility.
- Please direct all questions to the Crew Chief on duty
Diving Board and Platform Rules Diving Boards are one of the most critical danger areas in the pool!
- One person on diving board at a time.
- Dive straight from end of board.
- After dive, swim out of the area immediately.
- Do not swim underneath the board.
- Only one bounce per dive.
- No hanging on the boards.
- All dives must be in forward motion, with the exception of the dive team while being directly supervised by the dive coach.
- Patrons are not permitted on the 5 or 7.5 meter platforms during recreation swim unless authorized by the Aquatic Director.
Members of the BGSU dive team, with a coach present on deck, may only use platforms during specified practice times that have
been scheduled with the Aquatic Director in advance.
- Dives from the 1 and 3 meter boards must only be performed from the end of the boards. DIVE STRAIGHT OUT (no cartwheels, sitting
dives, hand stands, inward dives, etc.).
- The area under the 3-meter boards is a "diving only" area. Lap swimming will not be permitted in the diving area unless the
3-meter boards are closed.
- Only four people are allowed on the 3-meter springboard platform at a time. All other patrons must wait on deck (not on the
ladder) until the person ahead of them completes their dive.
- Only one person is allowed on the diving boards and ladders at a time.
- No more than five people on the 5 and 7.5 meter platforms at a time.
- Objects are not to be thrown to a person diving off any of the diving boards. Water basketballs are to be used for Water Basketball
only.
Water Basketball
- Water basketball units are placed at the pool edge when a game will not interfere with the general use of the facility or
when water basketball is a scheduled activity.
- Games are to be played half-court. Water basketballs are not to be thrown from across the pool or thrown at another patron
with the intent to injure.
- Water games are to be played from the water only (i.e., no dunking or shooting from pool deck).
- Swimmers are NOT to hang on the rims or goals. Goals are checked for safety purposes daily by the Crew Chief on duty.
- Water basketball is not to interfere with lap swimmers. Have players swim under lane lines to retrieve balls in other lanes.
- If a game becomes out of hand, the SRC staff have the right to ask you to "tone down" your behavior. If the behavior continues,
SRC staff have the right to end the game.
- Water basketballs can be checked out at the Pro Shop. It is not the guard's responsibility to take care of the balls. Water
polo balls and real basketballs are not to be used for this activity.
Water Polo
- Water polo is not permitted during recreation swim, unless it is a specifically scheduled activity. The water polo ball can
be thrown around if not busy and at the discretion of the staff on duty.
- During recreation swims, the innertube water polo goals are to be stored in the on-deck southeast storage facility. The deep
water polo goals are stored on-deck on the north side of the pool.
- Water polo balls may be checked out at the Pro Shop.
- Water polo balls are to be used in Cooper Pool ONLY.
Kickboards and Pull Buoys
- Kick boards and pull buoys are allowed in both pools, although lifeguards reserve the right to limit their use if the pools
are crowded or they are not being used for their intended purposes.
- Users are responsible for returning equipment to the equipment bins after use.
Masks, Fins and Snorkels
- Swimmers may use masks, fins and snorkels in the pool area. Guards may check to be sure the glass is tempered and the mask
fits properly.
- Snorkeling is not permitted under the diving boards or platforms, AT ANY TIME.
Starting Blocks
- Only the swim team is allowed to use the starting blocks in Cooper Pool when a coach or instructor is physically present and
available to observe their use.
- When starting blocks are not in use during swim team practice or swim meets, orange warning covers must be placed on each
block with the "NO DIVING" side facing hte deck to indicate that they are not to be used.
