| HEALTH AND SAFETY
All Health & Safety courses are offered to students, faculty/staff, and community members and are conducted by American Red Cross certified instructors. Participants must be at least 15 years old. Fall 2008 schedules will be available soon.
Registration for all courses is available at the main office desk at the Student Recreation Center or by calling 372-2711.
Courses must be paid at the time of sign-up. Please contact Micha Seither at smicha@bgsu.edu or Nate Boneta at nboneta@gmail.com with questions.
The Student Recreation Center reserves the right to cancel any class that does not have three or more participants signed
up the day before the class is scheduled to be taught.
Sports Safety Training (First-Aid) Sports Safety Training is a comprehensive first-aid class that teaches participants how to care for injuries from scrapes
and cuts to broken limbs until advanced medical care is available. This certification is required for all Recreational Sports
positions and various other positions on campus. There are no prerequisites for Sports Safety Training. This certification
is valid for three years.
CPR with AED Full Course The CPR with AED for the Professional Rescuer teaches participants to respond to breathing and cardiac emergencies in adults,
children and infants, use an AED on an adult or child victim of cardiac arrest and use personal protective equipment to stop
blood-borne pathogens and other diseases from spreading. There are no prerequisites for CPR for the Professional Rescuer.
This certification is valid for one year.
CPR with AED Challenge The CPR with AED challenge is a re-certification course for individuals who are looking to renew their CPR with AED for the
Professional Rescuer certification. To take this course, participants must hold a valid American Red Cross CPR for the Professional
Rescuer certification. This certification renewal is valid for one year.
Lifeguard Full Course The Lifeguard course teaches participants how to react in an aquatic emergency based on American Red Cross standards along
with certification in Sports Safety Training and CPR/AED for the Professional Rescuer. To take this course, participants must
be at least 15 years old and be able to swim 300 yards. Also, participants must be able to swim 20 yards, retrieve a 10 pound
object from a depth 10 feet, and swim back with the brick within 100 seconds. This certification is valid for three years.
Lifeguard Challenge The Lifeguard challenge is a re-certification course for individuals who are looking to renew their Lifeguard certification.
To take this course, participants must hold a valid American Red Cross Lifeguard certification. This certification renewal
is valid for three years.
