Welcome to the web home page of Miscellany magazine, a general
interest magazine covering Bowling Green State University and the
surrounding community. Miscellany is published fall and spring semesters
and has a circulation of 5,000. It is distributed at more than 50
key on-campus and off-campus locations.
Miscellany Magazine began in 1975, when the Benjamin Franklin Society,
a magazine "club" in existence at the time, created a
biannual magazine called, "Syzygy," which meant "to
yolk together" in Greek. It's purpose was to better connect
the university to the city. Syzygy was last published in the 1978-1979
school year.
The
magazine was reborn in its current tabloid form in 1982, when the
Board of Student Publications authorized the start-up of a magazine
titled, "Black Swamp Magazine." It was named for the former
geography of the land in Northwest Ohio. It was renamed Miscellany
in 1985 to reflect the general and wide-ranging content it provided.
This
campus publication, which comes out twice a year, is focused on
student issues. Miscellany strives to present these issues in creative
and daring ways through experimentation with different writing styles
and layout designs.
The
Miscellany editor serves a fall-to-spring semester term and is selected
by the publications board in April of each year. Editorial staff
members are interviewed and hired by the student editor. Editorial
content in each issue is determined by the student editors and staff.
Miscellany magazine accepts display advertising, both local and
national. Deadlines are two weeks in advance of the publishing date.
Miscellany is published the second Monday of November and April.
