Burton's thoughts...

By Burton Speakman

I took on this story because I thought it would be entertaining to hear interesting stories about the incidents on our universities’ shuttles.

Unfortunately, I was appalled by such open displays of drunkenness. Although I don’t question students’ rights to go out on the weekends and have a good time, they need to know when to stop.

People in Bowling Green complain about the damage that’s caused by students. Until recently, I gave it little thought. This story opened my eyes to how little some of us appreciate the features provided.

Some universities, such as Ohio University and the University of Cincinnati, don’t provide a shuttle service for students.

Our shuttle drivers take care of passengers regardless of how they act. It’s amazing that the drivers have the patience to deal with everything that happens on the bus.

As students and young adults, we have a responsibility to handle ourselves maturely. I know that college students are going to drink excessively and sometimes do dumb things, like puke on people.

We must be willing to take responsibility for our actions no matter how inebriated we become. People judge groups of people by their worst actions. I know that as students we can do better than become so intoxicated we can’t walk.
