Tobias Spears

Tobias Spears is the Assistant Director for Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, and Transgender (LGBT) Programs; he is also the newest member of the Office of Multicultural Affairs team. Tobias comes to Bowling Green State University after working in Residence Life at The Georgia Institute of Technology in Atlanta. Originally from Brooklyn, NY, Tobias did his undergraduate work at Binghamton University in history and his graduate work in the Women’s Studies Institute at Georgia State University. In his grad program, Tobias focused principally on visual culture, queer theories, feminism, and using concepts like womanism to talk about community culture among Black gay men. At BGSU Tobias will build inclusive LGBT communities through the avenues of diversity education, programming, student advocacy, and scholarship. He is also passionate about working with underrepresented student populations with concern in the specific areas of academic achievement and retention.
