Building Positive Community Relations

Having the chance to live off-campus during the college years is an exciting opportunity to many students at BGSU.  However, the fun of living off-campus comes with a lot of responsibility.  You too are now a member of the greater Bowling Green community as well as a student, and you are required to follow all policies and laws other citizens face; additionally, as a BGSU student, you are accountable under the Code of Student Conduct.

Get to know your neighbors when you move in and keep in touch; if your neighbors view you as a respectful community member, they will be more likely to discuss issues with you first and watch out for your safety too.  You will be paving the way for future BGSU students to live off-campus in neighborhoods that trust and support the people in them.  And do not forget, just as you have responsibilities, so do your neighbors; if someone is disrespecting you, your rights, or your property, you have every right to make a complaint.

Tips for being a Good Neighbor:

  • Introduce yourself to your neighbors when you move-in.
  • Exchange phone numbers and email addresses
  • Keep extra cars at a minimum
  • Ask about their family and kids, if any live with them.
  • Keep your yard clean and empty your trash on time.
  • Be considerate later at night especially if you are outside.

Enjoy your time in the Bowling Green community, but remember that support and resources at BGSU are only a short walk, drive, online click, or call away.

Once a Falcon, always a Falcon!
