“The joy of the peer education movement is the peer educators can ‘walk in both worlds’ [both the academic/professional and social worlds].”  (Drew Hunter, The Peer Educator)

Do you:
Want to get involved on campus?
Want to strengthen your public speaking skills?
Want to educate your peers on various health topics?
Be a role model to your fellow peers?
            Make new friends?
            Boost your resume?
Then, peer education is for you!

There are two different ways that current BGSU students can become involved in peer education:

1. HYPE:  Healthier You – Peer Education

  • After successfully completing HHS 440 (a 2-credit hour class offered both Fall and Spring semesters), students may become members of HYPE.
  • HYPE members present on various wellness topics, including nutrition, body image, alcohol and other drugs and sexual health.
  • HYPE members are required to attend a 1-hour meeting each week and complete a 1-hour office hour each week in the Wellness Connection.
  • By becoming a member, you’ll find out “what all the HYPE is about!”

HYPE Mission Statement: HYPE strives to promote all aspects of wellness by raising awareness and knowledge about healthier living through outreach and role modeling.  Our primary goal is to develop fun, interactive and educational programs that reach the entire BGSU community.

2.  SAIN and MEMPSA:  Sexual Assault Information Network and Men Educating Men on the Prevention of Sexual Assault

  • Student participate in a 6 to 8 hour training each semester
  • SAIN & MEMPSA present on sexual assault
  • SAIN & MEMPSA members are required to attend a 1-hour meeting each week and complete a 1-hour office hour each week in the Wellness Connection
