Laboratory Services

The Student Health Service laboratory has been certified by COLA, a national healthcare accreditation organization, to perform moderately complex lab tests since 1995.

Accreditation is given only to laboratories that apply rigid standards of quality in day-to-day operations, demonstrate continued accuracy in the performance of proficiency testing, and pass a rigorous on-site laboratory survey

The Student Health Service laboratory performs many lab tests "while you wait".

Any tests not performed in our lab are sent to our reference lab with results usually available within 1 to 3 days.

Prices and fees are available upon request at the SHS.

Pre-employment, drug testing & Pre-operative Lab Tests

The Student Health Service will be happy to assist you in coordinating your pre-employment or pre-op testing needs.

It is recommended that you call the lab directly at 419-372-7442, to discuss the specifics of what you need.

Self-Ordered Lab Tests

The SHS lab offers three tests that a student may come in and order on themselves:

• Strep Throat Testing
• Cholesterol
• Blood Type

All other tests need a doctor's written order but you can visit one of the SHS physicians, if there is a particular test you would like to have performed.

Physician-Ordered Lab Tests

A written or faxed copy of your physician's lab orders are all that we need to perform the tests.

• Test results can be mailed, faxed or phoned to your doctor's office.
• If your doctor's orders specify that you need to be "FASTING" before your tests, it means the following:
  • You should have nothing to eat or drink, other than water, for 12-14 hours prior to having your blood drawn. No tea, coffee, gum, etc.
  • It is recommended that you arrive at the Student Health Service before 10:00 am
