Spacer What to Expect When Receiving an HIV Test at the Wellness Connection Spacer

  • REMEMBER to bring a photo ID with you to your appointment!
  • Come into room 170 of the Health Center Building
    • Check in with someone at the front desk in the office – tell them you are here for an HIV test OR you have an appointment at (time).
    • Give them the name you used to make your appointment (Remember!  This does NOT have to be your real name)
    • Give them the time of your appointment
  • The person who checked you in will give you a double-sided form
    • Please take a seat & fill this form out in entirety while waiting for your appointment
  • Once the HIV test counselor is ready for you, she will call you back to the testing room
    • She will call you by the first name you gave when making your appointment
  • Once in the testing room, expect:
    • To show your valid photo ID
    • To fill out paperwork
    • Sign a few forms - Remember that the testing is CONFIDENTIAL, not anonymous, so your real name will be associated with your paperwork and test results
    • Receive the test - It is an oral swab, which you will run once against your top gums and once against your bottom gums
    • Talk about what brought you in for a test today (i.e., what could be putting you at risk for HIV)
    • Talk about a “plan of action” to help reduce your risk for HIV in the future
    • At the end of your session, receive your result
    • Receive referrals to other agencies/providers, if necessary
    • Ask any questions or concerns you may have about HIV
    • Fill out the evaluation form
