Bowling Green State University Panhellenic Council Wins Highest Achievement

Students from BGSU’s Greek community traveled to St. Louis, Missouri this past weekend for the Mid-American Greek Council Associations annual conference.  At the conference the BGSU’s Panhellenic community came home with the highest award given at the conference, the Sutherland Division IV Award.  Division IV is home to the largest Greek communities in the United States and thus an extremely competitive region.

This award recognizes Greek Council’s who demonstrate superior strength in eight areas: academic achievement, philanthropy and service, membership recruitment, risk reduction and management, self-governance and judicial affairs, public relations, leadership and education development, and council management.    Not only did the BGSU Panhellenic community achieve this award, they were recognized as the number one Panhellenic community, rising above some of the largest, strongest sorority communities in the nation.  The MGCA conference works to stimulate the growth and development of college Greek Councils by promoting leadership and educational experiences for student leaders at colleges and universities.  The conference offers leaders from Greek communities many different sessions on several different topics to help them learn information that will be beneficial to their position within their Greek community.

For more information visit the MGCA Conference Website.

The Earth Week "Green Recognition" Award for April 23 went  jointly to the Greek organizations Delta Chi and Alpha Omicron Pi.

For a month late in the fall semester, the men of Delta Chi and women of Alpha Omicron Pi altered their living habits and lifestyles to become "Green Greeks." Working with Sustainable Programs, they took steps to cut their electric usage, reduce food/kitchen waste and their use of disposable paper products and instituted/enhanced their recycling efforts.

Each chapter had significant, measurable changes in energy usage, resulting in cost savings. The chapters elected to continue their green practices after the contest was over.

Congratulations to the Green Greeks! Your "eco-leadership" is applauded!
