![]() How to Join! Panhellenic Sororities Pre-formal recruitment is for women who have completed 12 credit hours at BGSU. Chapters will hold events and offer bids on their own accord. All advertisements should be sent to VP Recruitment or Rho Gamma Director for pre-approval. After the formal process is over, sororities who are still looking for members will have open houses, ultimately offering membership on their own schedules. Not every sorority participates in the informal process because it may have already reached the maximum number of members allowed. This is important to know and is also why going through the formal process is the best opportunity for women to join a sorority. Interfraternity Fraternities The Interfraternity Council (IFC) participates in two different styles of recruitment during the academic school year. During the first week of school in the fall, IFC partakes in a formalized process known as "Legacy Week". This gives prospective members the opportunity to visit all 17 fraternities and learn more about our Greek community, with the possibility of joining one at the completion of the week. After "Legacy Week", the 17 organizations in IFC execute an informal recruitment method, allowing individual chapters to recruit members on their own schedule. National Pan-Hellenic Sororities and Fraternities Chapters within the National Pan-Hellenic Council (NPHC) conduct membership intake. At the beginning of each semester, NPHC hosts "Meet the Greeks," which is an open forum for interested individuals to acquire information about the different NPHC fraternities and sororities represented at BGSU. Once interested individuals have decided which organization they would like to join, they should acquire information about the specific membership intake process of that organization because each process varies. Most NPHC chapters have designated weeks throughout the year where educational and social programming occur. Students interested in joining a NPHC group are encouraged to attend the events to learn about the chapters. Independent Greek Council There are two different ways you can join a chapter within the Independent Greek Council (IGC) at BGSU. Alpha Phi Omega, Delta Lambda Phi, Delta Xi Phi, Omega Phi Alpha, and Phi Mu Alpha all hold open recruitment events throughout each semester at their discretion. These chapters will offer membership on their own schedules, based on the interest they receive. The remaining chapters within IGC conduct membership intake. Sigma Lambda Beta and Sigma Lambda Gamma hold informational sessions early in the fall and/or spring semesters. As with NPHC, interested individuals are encouraged to acquire information about the specific membership intake processes of these two organizations. |
