The BGSU Greek Community provides a comprehensive awards program for individuals and groups who fulfill their founding principles of Scholarship, Service, Leadership and Brotherhood/Sisterhood.

Following is a list of the various awards BGSU bestows on chapters and individuals on a regular basis.

 BGSU Greek Awards

Annually BGSU bestows a host of awards upon individuals and chapters at the Annual Greek Awards ceremony, held each spring. At this ceremony over 70 awards are presented. The day after the ceremony a full-page ad in the BG News lists all award recipients.

Chapter Excellence Award

The BGSU Greek Community annually recognizes outstanding chapters at the Spring Greek Awards program. All chapters are encouraged to submit a Chapter Excellence Award packet for the awards program, as well as a guide to identify areas of strength or weakness. Good chapters continually strive to improve their chapter operations.

A total of 69 points are possible if a chapter meets all the items, and has a house or hall. A total of 64 points are possible if a chapter does not have a house or hall. The Chapter Excellence Awards are based on the following point totals for housed/non-housed chapters:

  • Chapter Excellence awarded to chapters achieving 62/58 points (90%)
  • Gold Achievement awarded to chapters achieving 55/51 points (80%)
  • Silver Achievement awarded to chapters achieving 48/45 points (70%)
  • Bronze Achievement awarded to chapters achieving 41/38 points (60%)

Most Improved Chapter awarded to the chapter who has made a substantial improvement over the past year (to be awarded to chapters who submitted a Chapter Excellence Award packet the previous year).

National Chapter Awards

Many BGSU chapters receive national awards on an annual basis. These awards are testament to the good work chapters at BGSU do on the national level within their fraternity or sorority.

During the Fall semester, Greek Affairs runs a half-page ad listing those groups who received such awards during the summer from their national headquarters.

BGSU Greek Honor Societies

As a tangible symbol of our commitment to academic achievement, the BGSU Greek Community hosts two Honor Societies to reward fraternity and sorority members for achieving excellence:  Gamma Sigma Alpha and Order of Omega.

Gamma Sigma Alpha

National Greek Academic Honor Society honors the top 3% of fraternity and sorority members academically nationally. Founded in 1989 at the U. of Southern California, it has grown to over 150 chapters nationwide. The Delta Xi chapter at BGSU was founded in 1997.

Members are selected each semester based on the following:

  • Junior or Senior Status

Inducted members will receive a pin and certificate at the induction ceremony. The induction ceremony will welcome you as a new member of this prestigious organization, as well as introduce you to current members.

Order of Omega

National Greek Leadership Honor Society honors the top 3% of fraternity and sorority members for leadership nationally. Founded in 1959 at the U. of Miami (Florida) it has grown to over 300 chapters nation-wide. The Delta Omicron chapter at BGSU was founded in 1978.

Members are selected by the current members each semester based on the following criteria:

Dean's List Ads in the BG News
