Making Progress
You are responsible for identifying leadership learning and practice opportunities as well as for documenting your learning
and compiling this information over time. Read carefully through the learning outcomes and certification criteria detailed
in the Student Handbook, and discuss these with your mentor to ensure mutual understanding. Think about ways in which you
can meet each of the competencies, and use the BGSU LEAD Student Timeline form to strategically plan your time and progression
through the program. Be sure to document each of your learning experiences, and be prepared to compile this documentation
into a cohesive portfolio.
Evidence of your learning might include papers, formal presentations, video documentaries, websites, letters from supervisors
and/or peers, documentation of community projects. You are encouraged to diversify your experiences and be creative in fulfilling
the nine leadership competencies; however, your documented evidence should clearly and concisely demonstrate the learning
and growth that have taken place within a particular competency domain. Your mentor will be of great assistance as you identify
learning opportunities and document the learning that has transpired, but ultimately you must take ownership for your own
progression through the BGSU LEAD Program.
Note: Only those experiences gained after enrolling at Bowling Green State University may be counted toward the completion of
the BGSU LEAD Certificate. Exceptions may be granted on a case-by-case basis (e.g., transfer student, adult learners).
