Who can enroll?

All full-time, undergraduate students with at least a 2.5 grade point average and an interest in developing their leadership skills are eligible to enroll in the BGSU LEAD Program. Completion of the BGSU LEAD Certificate requires a minimum commitment of two years, therefore students are encouraged to apply early in their college career.

If you are  wondering whether the BGSU LEAD Program is right for you, please consult an advisor in the Office of Campus Activities, (419) 372-2343 or involved@bgsu.edu .

How much time will this require?

You may work through the nine BGSU LEAD competencies at your own pace, drawing from your academic and co-curricular experiences in order to achieve specified learning outcomes. You are required to schedule a minimum of three meetings per semester with your mentor, during which you will discuss your learning experiences and begin to develop your leadership portfolio. You are responsible for contacting your mentor to schedule these meetings. In addition, you will need to be proactive in obtaining involvement experiences that afford you the opportunity to achieve the required learning outcomes (see reverse for details). Completion of the BGSU LEAD Certificate will require a minimum commitment of two years (one phase per semester), but you may choose to spend up to four years working through the program.

Why should I enroll?

The BGSU LEAD program will help you to reap the most from your college experience while    preparing you to assume leadership roles in your profession and community. Specifically, the pursuit of this certificate will enable you to:

  • Engage in meaningful leadership experiences and reflect upon these experiences in order to process their relevance to your development as a leader.
  • Gain the leadership skills and knowledge that employers and graduate schools seek.
  • Learn with and from your leadership mentor, a faculty or staff member with special   interest in helping you to develop your leadership skills.
  • Work with fellow student leaders toward the betterment of our local, national, and global communities!

Our world and your profession need your leadership, yet being a leader is not always easy or intuitive. The sooner you act to enhance and apply your leadership competencies, the more widespread your impact will be!
