Vision, Mission Statement, & Goals

The VISION of the BGSU LEAD program is as follows:

“To graduate leaders who, by knowing themselves, behaving ethically, and working collaboratively, achieve positive change in their communities and the world.”

The MISSION STATEMENT is as follows:

“The BGSU LEAD program, in alignment with the academic mission of Bowling Green State University, provides undergraduate students with a comprehensive leadership experience. Upon graduation, students who fully participate in this program will demonstrate the necessary skills, knowledge, and experience to improve the local community, nation, and global society.”

Opportunities for students to develop their leadership skills are flourishing across Bowling Green State University’s campus, and indeed many students are currently taking advantage of the various curricular and co-curricular offerings. The BGSU LEAD program affords students a structured way to approach their acquisition of leadership-based knowledge through engagement in a multitude of leadership experiences. The program infuses active reflection with practical experience, thus challenging students to synthesize their learning and ultimately deepen their understanding of leadership. As students engage in the process of learning with the assistance of their leadership mentor they will clarify their personal beliefs and values and ultimately develop their own leadership philosophy.

The specific GOALS of the BGSU LEAD program are three-fold:

1.   To provide a framework for leadership development at Bowling Green State University that integrates the various leadership-related programs, opportunities, and classes currently taking place across campus.

2.   To recognize and reward the efforts of Bowling Green State University’s outstanding student leaders.

3.   To provide evidence of students’ leadership development at Bowling Green State University.
